Position Description:
The Manager of Patron Experience and Marketing plays a pivotal role in ensuring that concertgoers have a seamless journey, from initial outreach to post-concert follow-up. This role is responsible for leading subscription campaigns, managing patron relations through various channels including mailings and data management, and overseeing "day of" activities at the box office. As the primary point of contact for inquiries from existing and prospective patrons, sponsors, donors, and community partners, the Manager ensures high-quality service delivery. In marketing, responsibilities encompass email campaigns, press releases, social media management including content creation and posting, website updates, and capturing content at events. The overarching goal is to engage existing and prospective patrons, diversify audience demographics, and contribute significantly to the overall earned revenue goals of the Reading Symphony Orchestra.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Patron Experience (60%)
- Annual Subscription Campaigns: Drive annual subscription renewals and new sales campaigns to achieve revenue targets. Serve as the main point of contact for subscribers and oversee ticket and benefit fulfillment.
- Relationship Cultivation: Cultivate, solicit, and steward subscriber relationships, ensuring timely responses to inquiries and addressing any needs or concerns promptly.
- Database Management and Reporting: Manage subscriber, patron, donor, and event attendee databases, ensure accurate updates, collaborate with team members to utilize data effectively, and produce marketing and development reports.
- Box Office Coordination: Liaise with the Santander Performing Arts Center (SPAC) box office staff, overseeing preparations and operations on concert days.
- Ticketing and Seating Management: Manage ticketing needs, including allocations for artists, staff, media, VIPs, promotional comps, and group sales. Ensure accurate updates in the ticketing system.
- Volunteer Management: Lead efforts in volunteer recruitment, coordination, and training to support operational needs during concerts and events.
- Event Support: Collaborate with the team in the production and post-production aspects of concerts, annual gala events, and other special events.
Marketing (40%)
- Marketing Planning: Collaborate with the Executive Director and contractors to develop integrated marketing, advertising, public relations, and communications plans aligned with sales initiatives and organizational goals.
- Graphic Design Projects: Manage the creation of graphic design materials such as postcards, brochures, signage, and other promotional materials, adhering to brand guidelines.
- Publication Production: Oversee the production of a magazine-style concert program book, ensuring accuracy, informative content, and maximizing ad sales.
- Print Coordination: Coordinate the production of print materials such as season brochures, flyers, and other promotional materials.
- Partnerships: Develop cross-promotional opportunities through marketing partnerships.
- Brand Adherence: Ensure staff members adhere to brand look and voice across all communications.
- Sales Growth Initiatives: Direct ticket sales campaigns and develop year-round mini-pack offers to enhance customer loyalty and increase ticket sales.
- Content Creation: Review and edit written, photo, and video content for social media and web platforms, ensuring consistency in brand voice and style.
- Email: Use email marketing to promote concerts, events, and updates to our audience. Segment digital audiences as needed for targeted campaigns.
- Website Management: Maintain and update the RSO's website content with external contractors.
- Social Media Engagement: Engage with social media users and respond to messages, inquiries, and comments.
- Analyze: Evaluate the effectiveness of all marketing initiatives, including, but not limited to, website traffic, social media analytics and campaigns, to report on key metrics.
- Event Coverage: Oversee marketing set-up in front-of-house at concerts and community activities. Attend concerts and events to capture content in real-time for social media posting and other promotional purposes.
Additional Responsibilities
- Office Administration: Oversee office administration tasks including handling regular mail, package acceptance, and managing telephone, email, and walk-in inquiries.
Requirements
This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, excellent communication abilities, and a passion for both patron satisfaction and effective marketing strategies. By managing patron experiences and implementing strategic marketing initiatives, the Manager significantly enhances patron satisfaction, increases audience engagement, and drives revenue growth for the Reading Symphony Orchestra. The position requires knowledge of patron database systems.
Compensation
Commensurate with experience. Benefits package includes medical, dental, vision, and paid time off for vacation, personal time, and holidays.

Established in 1913, the Reading Symphony Orchestra (RSO) is one of the oldest continuously operating orchestras in the U.S. Over time, the RSO has evolved from performing classical music solely for Reading area citizens to becoming a vital part of the Greater Berks County community. Committed to high-quality symphony music, education, and outreach, the RSO presents six annual Classics concerts, Pops performances, and collaborations with local arts organizations.
